The Role of National Ecosystem Assessments in Influencing Policy Making
This paper draws insights from experience with National Ecosystem Assessments (NEAs) undertaken in the UK, Japan, Spain, and Portugal, as well as other ecosystem assessments undertaken at regional and international geographical scales, and highlights lessons learned so that the impact of NEAs on policy can be enhanced. The paper concludes by identifying key issues needed to develop practical guidance for successful ecosystem assessments.

Lessons learned from carrying out ecosystem assessments: Experience from members of the Sub-Global Assessment Network
The document brings together the experience of over 70 practitioners, who have carried out ecosystem assessments in more than 30 countries worldwide at differing scales. It presents their key lessons learned and offers a set of simple, practical first steps for instigating new assessments. It is hoped the lessons will help ecosystem assessment practitioners to define priorities, overcome common challenges and create a clear pathway for action.
