Mentoring scheme
In 2014, the SGA Network implemented a mentoring scheme for early-career assessment practitioners. The scheme sought to facilitate the establishment of mentoring relationships between early-careers scientists and researchers working in the field of ecosystem assessments and ecosystem services, and established assessment practitioners, in order to promote capacity development and knowledge exchange for undertaking and using ecosystem assessments.
Via an application process, early-career assessment practitioners wishing to partake in the 2014 mentoring scheme had to define their key learning objectives, identify and seek support with their mentor, and demonstrate a clear link to ongoing or planned assessment processes. The five successful applicants each received a small grant up to the maximum value of US $3,500. These grants facilitated travel and covered subsistence costs in order for the mentees to spend direct contact time with their mentors.
